2006 VINTAGE
PRODUCTION:
This wine has been made from a grape variety particular to Chile,
and especially to the Maule Valley. The Mission grape (also
known as Pais) was introduced to Chile by the Spanish during the
period of the Conquistadoras. It is the oldest grape variety
planted in the area and has become well adapted to the regional
climate and is organically grown in order to maintain its inherent
qualities.
Produced from 5 to
20 year old vines, grown on sandy clay with a high mineral and
quartz content. Flood irrigation employed. The grapes
were de-stemmed and whole bunch pressed. Pre-fermentation maceration
followed by fermentation in stainless steel on skins at 24 – 26ºC
using selected yeast. 100% malolactic fermentation. Oak
contact from cherry oak chips.
WINEMAKERS TASTING NOTE: Cherry red in
colour, the wine shows strawberries and raspberries on the nose with
some spicy notes. On the palate, the wine has soft, sweet tannins
which support the red berry fruit.
