EQUALITY WINE TOP WINNER IN FAIRTRADE WINE AWARDS

Equality Sauvignon Blanc 2007 was crowned Best Overall White Wine in the first ever Fairtrade Wine Awards, which were announced at the recent Fairtrade Wine Tasting at on 1^st November. Chile infact proved the outright winner, with the top red also awarded to a Chilean wine.

The awards were organised by the UK Fairtrade Wine Committee to create further awareness in the quality of Fairtrade wines. The wines, from Chile, Argentina and South Africa, were judged by wine writers Liz Morcom MW, Sally Easton MW, Julie Arkell, Patricia Langton, Christine Austin, and David Williams, and Marks & Spencer buyer Jo Ahearne. A top white and red were selected from each country, and the finalists were retasted to award the overall white and red winners. Equality’s Sauvignon Blanc therefore achieved Best Chilean White and Overall Best White Wine in the Competition. Harriet Lamb, Executive Director of the Fairtrade Foundation, announced the awards and handed out the certificates.

Equality Sauvignon Blanc 2007 is only the second vintage produced, and is available in Threshers and independent outlets throughout the UK, including Tanners and Weavers of Nottingham, priced £5.79-£5.99.

In a relatively short time Equality has proved its quality. Last year Equality Cabernet Sauvignon achieved the first Gold Medal won by a Fairtrade red wine, awarded in the International Wine Challenge 2006, as well as Highly Commended awards this year and last in the same competition.
